Don’t Risk These Common Cleaning Mistakes! Hire the Pros Instead
Kimberly’s Kleaning can handle all your house cleaning needs correctly.
According to a survey sponsored by Kenmore, 49 percent of Americans admit to cutting corners when they clean. And even when you do try to do the best possible job cleaning your own home, chances are you’re not doing everything totally right.
For example, here are 8 common cleaning mistakes that people make when cleaning their own homes:
Waiting Until You See Dirt
The first mistake people make is waiting until they notice their home is dirty to clean it. If you take this approach, it’s really easy to keep postponing cleaning tasks until your home becomes really dirty. At this point, it will take much more work to clean! Don’t let things get to this point—sign up for regular house cleaning visits from Kimberly’s Kleaning.
Too Much Water on a Wood Floor
Normally when you want to wash something, more water is better. But this is not true with a wood floor. Sloshing too much water around can actually get between boards or otherwise damage the floor. It’s better to use a barely-damp mop to clean your wood floors.
Cleaning Your TV Like a Window
You absolutely should not use paper towels and window cleaner on your TV or other LCD screens. This could scratch and damage your screens. Instead, use a microfiber cloth or a clean coffee filter to gently wipe dust away.
Scratching Your Tub and Tile
If you have a porcelain bathtub and/or tile surround in your bathroom, you need to be very careful about what cleaning products you use. Abrasive cleaners and rough scrubbers will ruin the finish and leave your tub and tile covered in scratches that will look even uglier once they start to hold stains.
Vacuuming the Wrong Direction
While it’s good to make several passes with the vacuum, going in different directions in the center of a room, you should never vacuum straight up to your baseboards. This could actually push dirt under the baseboards. Instead, always vacuum parallel to your baseboards.
Not Cleaning Floors After Dusting
Whether you’re dusting a cabinet full of curios, a bookshelf, light fixtures, or ceiling fan blades, not all of that dust is going to get captured by your dusting cloth. Some of it will fall down to the floor, so if you like a clean floor you should always sweep, mop, or vacuum after dusting.
Overusing your Oven’s Self-Clean Feature
Another common cleaning mistake homeowners make is using their oven’s self-clean cycle too often. This can actually cause your oven to wear out faster, as the electronics inside are not really designed for the super-hot temperatures required for self cleaning. Make an effort to scrub out little messes from your oven as they happen, and save the self-clean feature for spring cleaning.
Using Harmful Chemicals
One final mistake that the expert cleaners at Kimberly’s Kleaning can help you avoid is using cleaning chemicals that are actually harmful to kids and pets. We do not use any cleaners that emit high levels of VOCs or leave residues that could hurt kids or pets. Instead, we use only the best green cleaners that have proven very effective in our house cleaning work.
